CANSAIL INSTRUCTORS  |  All Levels  |  2025 Season:

Qualities and Qualifications:

  • ​Must hold a minimum of CanSail Instructor Level 1&2 and, ideally, 3&4 and/or 5&6
  • Registered member and in good standing with Sail Canada for the summer season
  • Must be in a healthy physical condition required to safely sail at a high demonstrative level for eight hours per day and in a variety of weather conditions
  • Candidate loves sailing and has a positive attitude inspiring young sailors
  • Candidate has a strong aptitude for leadership, is professional, approachable, friendly and a team player​

Overall Responsibilities:

  • ​Full-time positions from late June through late August
  • Teach and evaluate CANSail 1&2 and/or 3&4 and/or 5&6
  • Communicate with sailors and parents
  • Be a collaborative member of the instructors' team

HEAD COACH  |  2025 Season:

The Head Coach plays a pivotal role in overseeing all programs for Sail Georgian Bay, supervising and leading the team of instructors and volunteers. ​

Qualities and Qualifications:

  • The Head Coach is a flexibile, strong and experienced sailing professional with a passion for mentorship and program development, organizational skills, communication skills.
  • Most importantly, the Head Coach will have a passion for sailing and the development of sailors and instructors in a safe and professional manner.
  • He or she has a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
  • The Head Coach will ideally possess CANSail Instructor Level 5/6 certification, has ample previous experience as a sailing instructor, and is in good standing with Sail Canada.
  • Must have an interest in working with children and youth to develop resilience and physical literacy through sport. ​

Overall Responsibilities:

  • ​Operations Oversight: Ensure the smooth and safe running of all operations.
  • Instructor Supervision and Mentorship: Provide supervision and frequent feedback to sailing instructors and volunteer assistant-instructors, including team briefings and evaluations. Provide mentorship for instructors and assistant-instructors on a daily basis; Chair all instructor meetings, briefings and evaluations. 
  • Lesson Planning and Program Delivery: Providing overviews, planning and coordinating the weekly and seasonal lesson programs and formats; Responsible for the delivery of programs in a safe and professional manner; Planning and organizing yearly regatta, including race course lay-out. 
  • Coaching: Coach children and youth sailors to improve their teamwork, communication, sailing and water safety skills; Coach sailors to enhance their sailing and racing abilities; Promote the association of community and fun with sailing.
  • Stewardship: Advocate for and champion environmental stewardship and sustainability, with a focus on water-related activities and associated elements, and integrate this in weekly lessons.
  • Maintenance and repairs: Rigging, inventory of repairs required, keep track of and maintain any equipment, materials, and space provided by Sail Georgian Bay.
Additionally, the Head Coach will: 
  • Connect with parents/guardians to ensure personalized care for each student; 
  • Respond to student needs, demonstrating consideration for client goals and varied learning styles; 
  • Schedule, plan, and manage classes to ensure a well-paced lesson that focuses on safety, fun, and progression; 
  • Document lessons and use Checklick software to chart athletes' progress; 
  • Understand and practice Duty of Care, making moral and ethical choices in communication and behaviour; 
  • Participate in the sailing school community with respect for all equipment; 
  • Understand the benchmark and long-range goals for developing sailors of all ages and abilities. 

Other:

Compensation is scaled and based on experience and level of training. Successful candidates are required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check. About the School
​

Located on the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay in Meaford Harbour

Our small but outstanding sailing school has operated since 2001 and attracts sailors from Collingwood to Owen Sound, and many summer residents from the GTA. Besides sailing lessons, we have weekly regattas and recently built a racing team. The fleet consists of 420s, Laser Picos and RS Zests.
