What to bring

  • Coast Guard approved life jacket or PFD. This must fit properly and be in good condition. If it is too large, it isn’t safe!
  • Lunch, snacks and extra drinks in a small cooler or cooler bag.
  • Water, (suggestion to keep cool: fill bottle one quarter full and freeze the night before, then in the morning fill to the top).
  • Sunscreen, usually SPF 30 — 45 for your body and face. Check for environmentally friendly sunscreen to protect our lake!
  • Sunglasses with 100% UVA & UVB protection.
  • A hat or visor with a clip or twine so you can tie it to your PFD and don’t lose it.
  • Fast drying, inexpensive sneakers or water shoes (please bring sandals or other shoes that you don’t get wet for on shore activities).
  • A large beach towel and bathing suit.
  • At least one complete change of warm clothes including sweatshirts, track pants, windbreaker jacket and rain gear. Remember it is a lot colder on the water, and our weather can be quickly changeable!
  • Finally, a backpack or gym bag that you can fit everything into. If your bag doesn’t have a separate spot for wet stuff, pack a couple of extra grocery bags or large zip-locks so you can keep your dry stuff dry!
  • Everything should be labeled and kept in a designated area.
  • Please make sure you wear closed-toed water shoes. Slides and flip-flops are not allowed.

Where to be

  • We are located in Rhoda's Boathouse, at Meaford Harbour. Look for our fleet of sailboats on the docks.
  • Sail Georgian Bay club house will be restricted to the staff and athletes attending that week.
  • Meetings for new parents, sailors or others who are not sailing will be conducted outside.
  • Parents, guardians and other spectators are encouraged to watch from the breakwall.

Arrival and Departure

  •  Sailing starts at 9 am sharp. It would be wise to be there a few minutes before so you have your gear stowed and are ready for your lesson. The sailing instructors open up the boat house around 8:45 am.
  • Sailing ends at 4 pm. Sailors are required to inform the coaches when they are departing for the day.
  • Students may not leave the boathouse area during lunch unless they have a written note from a parent or guardian.
  • Please call or email the school if your child will be late or absent for any reason.
