Coaches For 2020 Season

Watch here for some very exciting updates!

Derek Breakwell

Picture
Derek has been sailing at SGB for the past 9 summers.  In 2016, he began coaching as a CANSail 1/2 coach.  He credits his positive sailing experiences at SGB with helping him become the sailor and coach that he currently is. Derek is looking forward to another unforgettable summer in his four year of coaching.

In the summer Derek can be found at the family cottage on Lake Eugenia sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding and anything else you can think of on a boat.

In the winter he can be found downhill ski racing with the London Ski Club where he has also volunteered for the past 3 years.  He has raced competitively for the past 8 years.  He has also received both his Level 1 CSIA instructor certification and is a certified CSCF Entry Level Race Coach.

Derek, a recent graduate from Oakridge Secondary School in London will be attending the University of Western Ontario in September in hopes of receiving a HBA degree from Ivey School of Business.

Ilian Halbertsma

Ilian Halbertsma is a former sailing student and volunteer at SGB, and this is his second year as a CANSail 3/4 coach.

He has had a lot of sailing experience in the Caribbean where he lived, and has been sailing since he was seven years old. He has races primarily in optimists, but has also sailed in RS Visions, Lasers, and 420s.

Other than sailing, he loves theatre, skiing, music, and travelling. He is very excited for this year’s sailing season, and being able to coach this summer.

Aryeh Kozuch

Aryeh sadly will not be returning in 2020.  Aryeh is one of our home grown coaches and has been a valued member of the team for several summers.  Aryeh is at Queens University & sails for the varsity team ... we wish him all the luck & good wind for the future!
